The 10-Minute Business Audit Every Small Business Owner Should Do Every Friday

The 10-Minute Business Audit Every Small Business Owner Should Do Every Friday

August 07, 20263 min read

Introduction:

It's Friday afternoon.

You've been busy all week.

You've answered messages, created content, packed orders, spoken to customers and probably added another ten things to next week's to-do list.

Then Monday arrives... and you do it all again.

Sound familiar?

Here's the question I'd ask.

When was the last time you actually stopped and reviewed your business?

Not your social media.

Not your inbox.

Your business.

Because spending just ten minutes reflecting on your week can completely change how you approach the next one.

Here's the quick audit I recommend every business owner does before they switch off for the weekend.

Business

1. Where Did My Customers Come From This Week?

Did they find you on Facebook?

Was it a recommendation?

Did someone return to place another order?

Did they find you through Google?

The more you understand where your customers are coming from, the easier it becomes to know where to invest your time.

2. What Actually Made Me Money?

This sounds obvious, but many business owners confuse being busy with making sales.

Ask yourself:

  • Which product sold the most?

  • Which service brought in the most income?

  • Which activity directly led to those sales?

Your business grows when you spend more time doing the things that generate revenue.

3. Did I Follow Up Every Enquiry?

How many potential customers contacted you this week?

Did every single one receive a reply?

Did you follow up with the people who said, "I'll think about it"?

Following up doesn't have to feel pushy.

Often people are simply busy.

A gentle follow-up can make all the difference.

4. What Took Up Too Much Time?

Think back over your week.

Was there a task that felt unnecessarily long?

Maybe you searched for files.

Repeated the same information to several customers.

Recreated something from scratch.

Those are usually signs that a simple system or template could save you time in future.

5. What Went Really Well?

We can be so focused on what's next that we forget to celebrate what's already happened.

Did you receive lovely customer feedback?

Reach a milestone?

Gain a new client?

Finish a project?

Take a moment to acknowledge it.

Progress deserves celebrating.

6. What Didn't Go To Plan?

Every week teaches us something.

Maybe a post didn't perform as expected.

Perhaps a launch was quieter than you'd hoped.

Instead of seeing it as a failure, ask yourself:

"What can I learn from this?"

Business is one long learning curve.

7. Who Do I Need To Thank?

Business is built on relationships.

Is there a customer who left a lovely review?

Someone who referred you?

A client who supported your business again?

Never underestimate the power of saying thank you.

8. What's My Biggest Priority Next Week?

Not twenty priorities.

One.

If you could only achieve one meaningful thing next week, what would make the biggest difference?

Start there.

9. What Am I Going To Stop Doing?

This is one of my favourite questions.

Growth isn't always about adding more.

Sometimes it's about removing the things that no longer serve you.

Ask yourself:

  • What's wasting my time?

  • What's causing unnecessary stress?

  • What's no longer bringing results?

Give yourself permission to stop.

10. Have I Looked After Myself This Week?

Your business needs you.

Have you taken breaks?

Had time with family?

Got outside?

Moved your body?

Had a proper day off?

Success means very little if you're running yourself into the ground.

Why This Matters

Business owners often tell me they feel overwhelmed.

Not because they don't work hard.

Because they never stop long enough to think.

Ten minutes every Friday can help you spot patterns, make better decisions and start Monday with a clear plan instead of another overwhelming to-do list.

My Challenge To You

Before you finish work this Friday, make yourself a cup of tea, grab a notebook and answer these ten questions.

Set a timer for ten minutes.

That's all.

You might be surprised by how much clarity comes from simply pausing to reflect.
