The Ugly Truth About AI-Generated Content: Why Embracing Authentic Communication Still Matters

August 08, 20255 min read

Introduction:

First things first—I wrote every keystroke of this blog by hand. Zero AI used. And yes, this is important I start by telling you this, because today I want to address a topic that’s becoming more and more relevant as we dive deeper into the world of artificial intelligence (AI) and content creation.

So I have a question for you....... Are you starting to recognise AI-generated content?

It’s becoming harder to spot, but there are still some clear indicators—dash overuse, excessive emojis, and sounding robotic leaving an audience feeling nothing to name just a few. If you're noticing more AI-driven content in your feed, you’re not imagining it. But does it work? Is it taking over the way we communicate online? And what’s the solution to ensuring that our content stays authentic?

In this blog, I’m going to share some insights into why AI-generated content, while useful, should not replace genuine communication—and how we can find the right balance in this new world.

Let’s get into it!

Business

The ugly truth about AI Generated Content:

1. The Dash Giveaway: The Tell-Tale Sign of AI Content

One of the most obvious signs of AI-generated writing? The excessive use of dashes. Seriously, have you noticed it? It’s like every other sentence contains one of these little marks: —.

AI tools, including ChatGPT, often use the em dash to link related thoughts, creating a sense of continuous flow. While the dash is grammatically correct and useful in moderation, overusing it is a clear red flag that the content wasn’t written by a human.

Tip: If you naturally use dashes in your writing, that’s great! But don’t overdo it. Make sure every dash serves a purpose and doesn’t come off as forced or excessive.

2. Emojis: Fun or Not?

Let’s be honest, emojis are fun. They add personality and flair to posts, emails, and messages. But here’s something to think about: too many emojis can detract from the meaning of your message. And not just because it looks messy.

For people using screen readers, each emoji is read aloud with its description—so a string of emojis can sound completely nonsensical or confusing. This is especially important as new accessibility regulations for AI come into play.

Tip: Now I love an emoji but use them sparingly. One or two can be great for tone or emphasis, but avoid overloading your message with them. Keep your audience in mind, especially those with accessibility needs.

3. AI Content: It’s Not All Bad, But It Needs Authenticity

AI-generated content can certainly make life easier. It can help you create content ideas quickly which is super useful if you are not naturally creative. But here’s where it falls short: AI can’t replicate authenticity. AI doesn’t have the human connection that builds relationships, trust, and loyalty with an audience.

It’s essential to maintain a personal touch, especially when you're building a community online. If your content feels robotic or lacking in emotion, your audience will notice. People want to feel connected to you—the person—not just the machine behind the words.

If you are writing content for your network marketing business it can come off as incredibly salesy - never a good look! (see what I did there, used a dash in the right place 🤣, oh and an emoji)

Tip: Use AI to streamline certain tasks, like generating ideas or drafting outlines for an idea, but always add your personal touch. Make sure your voice, your story, and your values shine through in everything you publish.

4. Balancing AI and Authentic Communication

One thing that keeps coming up every time I chat about AI, is the need for balance. We can use AI to improve efficiency, automate processes, and enhance our work. But we can’t let AI replace the very essence of communication: genuine human interaction.

Tip: Use AI for its strengths, but always be mindful of its limitations. Focus on ethically using AI in ways that add value to your audience and support, rather than replace, your unique voice. Watch out for becoming lazy and just letting it do it ALL for you!

5. Transparency is Key

As we move into the age of AI, transparency will be our best asset. We need to be upfront about when we’re using AI, and more importantly, when we’re choosing not to. That’s how we build trust.

Tip: Be transparent about your use of AI. If you’re blending AI into your processes, let your audience know. Authenticity is about trust, and being open about how you use AI shows that you care about their experience.

Conclusion: AI is Here, But Authenticity Wins

AI is transforming the way we work, create, and communicate. But no matter how advanced these tools get, they can’t replace the human connection. As we embrace AI, we must ensure that authenticity remains the cornerstone of our communication.

By using AI responsibly, keeping transparency at the forefront, and staying true to your voice, you can navigate this new era without losing what makes your brand truly unique.

So, next time you spot excessive em dashes or a sea of emojis in content, take a step back. Ask yourself: Is this real? Is this genuine? If it’s not, then it’s time to add a human touch—because AI may help you work smarter, but only authenticity will help you build lasting relationships.

Let’s keep the human in our work, your audience will love you for it. 🙌
