Where Did Your Last 10 Customers Come From? Why Every Small Business Should Know

July 10, 20263 min read

Introduction:

Can I ask you a question?

Where did your last 10 customer orders come from?

Not where you think they came from.

Where did they actually come from?

Take a moment to think about it.

Could you list all ten?

For many business owners, especially those in direct sales or network marketing, the answer is...

"I'm not really sure."

And that's a problem.

Not because you've done anything wrong, but because you're trying to grow your business without knowing what's actually working.

Business

You're Probably Working Harder Than You Need To

I see this all the time.

Someone is posting on Facebook every day because they think they should.

They're making Reels because everyone says video is the future.

They're spending hours creating content.

Attending networking events.

Sending messages.

Doing all the things...

But when I ask where their customers are actually coming from, they don't know.

If you don't know where your customers are coming from, how do you know what deserves more of your time?

Every Customer Leaves A Clue

Imagine your last ten customer orders looked something like this:

  • 4 came from recommendations.

  • 3 came from existing customers ordering again.

  • 2 came from Facebook.

  • 1 came from a networking event.

Now ask yourself...

Where would you spend more time next month?

Would you carry on doing exactly the same things?

Or would you start encouraging more referrals, looking after your existing customers and continuing to build your Facebook community?

The answers become much clearer when you know the facts.

Stop Chasing Every New Marketing Trend

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people constantly looking for the next big thing.

"I think I need TikTok."

"I should probably start YouTube."

"Maybe I need Threads."

Maybe you do.

Maybe you don't.

If 80% of your customers are coming from conversations in Facebook, why would you stop doing the thing that's already working?

Don't let shiny object syndrome distract you from what your business is already telling you.

You Don't Need Fancy Software

This doesn't need to be complicated.

Grab a notebook.

Open a spreadsheet.

Or keep a note on your phone.

Every time someone places an order, simply write down where they came from.

  • Facebook

  • Referral

  • Existing customer

  • Networking

  • Instagram

  • WhatsApp

  • Event

  • Family or friend

That's it.

After ten customers, you'll start to see patterns.

After fifty, you'll start making much better business decisions.

Your Time Is Valuable

Most people in network marketing aren't running their business full-time.

They're fitting it around work.

Children.

Family.

Life.

That means every hour matters.

If you only have five hours a week to work on your business, wouldn't you rather spend those five hours doing the things that actually bring in customers?

Build A Business, Not Just A Social Media Habit

Social media is an incredible tool.

But it isn't the business.

Your customer journey matters.

Your follow-up matters.

Your relationships matter.

Your referrals matter.

The businesses that grow consistently know exactly what's bringing customers through the door.

Not because they have a huge team or expensive software.

Because they've built one simple habit.

They pay attention.

My Challenge To You

My Challenge To You

Before you create another post...

Before you try another platform...

Before you spend money on another course...

Answer this question honestly.

Where did your last 10 customer orders come from?

If you can answer it confidently, brilliant.

If you can't...

Don't panic.

Start tracking from today.

Because when you know what's working, you can stop guessing, stop wasting time and start growing your business with confidence.
